Case 1, image 1: This individual died of mixed drug toxicity and had a past medical history significant for hepatitis C, intravenous drug abuse and alcoholism. Fibrous bands divide the liver parenchyma into nodules.
Case 1, image 2: Additionally, there is marked micro- and macrovesicular steatosis and periportal inflammation consisting predominantly of lymphocytes.
Case 2, image 1: This 21-year-old man died of acute mixed drug toxicity. The decedent’s chronic pancreatitis caused extensive pancreatic scarring which most likely led to a partial bile duct obstruction and subsequent ascending cholangitis and early (secondary) biliary cirrhosis.
