CASE BACKGROUND
52 year old with weakness with anemia undergoes upper endoscopy.
AUTOIMMUNE ATROPHIC GASTRITIS
Atrophic gastritis can be related to chronic H. pylori or due to anti-parietal cell or anti-intrinsic factor antibodies.

Lowered acid secretion leads to increased gastrin from the antral G cells, which then stimulates enterochromaffin-like (ECL) cells within the body and can lead to ECL cell hyperplasia. ECL cell hyperplasia progresses from normal, simple hyperplasia, linear hyperplasia, nodular hyperplasia, and beyond.
